Fantastic start to Sports Leadership

Year 7s make a fantastic start to Sports Leadership

48 Year 7s volunteered to help run the Banbury Area Primary Schools Cross Country on Thursday 28th September.  They worked brilliantly alongside 7 experienced Y12 Sports Leaders and made the event a huge success.  The event was extremely well supported with 10 local primary schools attending and a total of 445 children racing.  St. Leonard’s and Bishop Loveday had a very successful morning each winning 3 of the 6 team events.  St. Leonard’s also won the overall trophy with Bishop Loveday coming 2nd and Hillview 3rd.  SSCO Mrs Smith-Childs said “It’s great that so many of the new Year 7s are keen to be involved in Sports Leadership at Banbury Academy.  A lot of them have already had lots of experience in their primary schools as they have taken on the roles of School Games Organising Crews, Change 4 Life Champions and Playground Leaders.  We have a very busy North Oxfordshire School Sport Partnership calendar again this year with 17 events scheduled so there will be lots more opportunities for them to get involved.”
